Anonymous app analytics

The app uses PostHog EU Cloud to count successful camera scans and understand general feature use. For a successful scan, the app may send anonymous event, installation and session identifiers; product type; camera source; app and catalogue version; whether the result matched the built-in checklist; and basic technical context supplied by the SDK, such as platform, operating-system version, device model/type, locale, timezone and network connection type. As with any internet request, PostHog also receives the network address used to deliver the event.

PostHog does not receive the barcode string, stamp or camera image, My Collection/checklist contents, label contents, name, email address, RevenueCat App User ID, or subscription status from these events. Person profiles, automatic screen or interaction capture, session recording, and advertising tracking are disabled.

We use these aggregate events only to measure real scanner use, monitor adoption, and decide which app features and reference data need improvement. We do not use them for advertising or to track activity across other companies' apps or websites.

Information we process

The app processes DataMatrix barcode strings on your device to decode and display the information contained in the barcode.

We do not collect barcode data or camera images from your device automatically.

If you use collection/checklist features, that data is stored locally on your device as part of normal app use. Label previews are also generated locally on-device.

Technical note: the app supports the DataMatrix barcodes printed on modern Royal Mail stamps.

Website analytics and cookies

StampDecoder.app uses Google Analytics 4 to help us understand website visits and which pages are useful. Google Analytics is optional and does not load until you select Accept analytics in the website banner.

If you accept, Google Analytics may process information about the pages you visit, how you reached the site, and your browser or device. Analytics cookies may be stored on your device. We have disabled Google Signals and advertising personalisation in our site configuration.

Your choice is stored in your browser so we can remember it. You can reject analytics or change your choice at any time using Cookie settings. See Google's Privacy Policy for information about Google's processing.

Subscriptions and app functionality

The app uses RevenueCat to manage subscriptions, paywalls, purchase status, and restore-purchase support. RevenueCat may process an anonymous app user ID, purchase or subscription status, and privacy-light app functionality attributes such as whether a successful scan or decode has happened, the last decoded product type, whether the result matched the built-in checklist, and the camera scan count.

These RevenueCat attributes are used for app functionality and support. They do not include barcode strings, stamp images, camera images, or the contents of your My Collection/checklist data.

Support emails

If you contact us at beta@stampdecoder.app, we will receive your email address and the contents of your message. We use this only to respond to your request and to improve the app.

Third-party services

We do not use advertising analytics, data brokers, or cross-app tracking in the app. The app uses PostHog EU Cloud for anonymous successful-scan analytics and RevenueCat for subscription and app-functionality support, as described above. This website uses Google Analytics only after you consent, as described above.

Children

The app is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your choices

You can stop using the app at any time. If the app stores any data locally on your device (for example, user preferences), removing the app will remove that local data.

For the website, you can reject analytics when first asked or revisit Cookie settings to change your choice.
